ASISA welcomes Old Mutual’s Iain Williamson as new Chairman

18 June 2024

The Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA) welcomes Iain Williamson as the new Chairman of the ASISA Board of Directors. Williamson is the CEO of Old Mutual and has been a member of the ASISA Board since January 2020.

Williamson takes over from Anton Pillay, CEO of Coronation Fund Managers, who has served as Chairman of ASISA since March 2022. Pillay remains on the ASISA Board as a Director.

The ASISA Board also appointed Mahesh Cooper, COO of Allan Gray, as the new Deputy Chairman. He has served on the ASISA Board since July 2022.

Adrian Burke, acting CEO of ASISA, thanked Pillay for his strong and focused leadership as ASISA transitioned through a period of change following the retirement of founding CEO Leon Campher in 2022. “Anton dedicated an extraordinary amount of time to ensure stability not only for ASISA but also for the savings and investment industry, as it emerged from a particularly volatile period created by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Burke also extended a warm welcome to Williamson and Cooper on behalf of the ASISA team. “As a team, we look forward to working closely with Iain and Mahesh and the rest of the ASISA Board to deliver on the key objectives of the ASISA strategy. Our country is entering uncharted waters on the political front and, at the same time, navigating groundbreaking changes to both our health and retirement systems. Strong leadership from the ASISA Board will be critical.”
